Cameron County is located in the heart of the PA Wilds. We are home to the Elk State Forest, Sizerville State Park, Sinnemahoning State Park, Quehanna Wild Area, and the Bucktail Natural Area and only a short drive from the Allegheny National Forest and the Elk Country Visitor Center. From fishing and hunting to hiking and mountain biking and snowmobiling and everything in between, there is something for every outdoor adventurist!

Snowmobile Trails

Emporium connects DCNR land that offers hundreds of acres of designated snowmobile areas to explore.

PA Wilds BDRX

The BDR-X route for the PA Wilds runs right through the heart of downtown Emporium.

Nature

Biking Trails

The Dark Sky Park is a current, functional area that is available for use to view the dark skies, wildlife, and enjoy nature. The site is currently open to the public and hosts viewing parties all summer long.

Birding

Cameron County offers a fantastic opportunity for birdwatching, with its diverse habitats ranging from forests to wetlands. Bird enthusiasts can spot a wide variety of species, including migratory birds and local residents.

Elk viewing

Estimated at around 1,400, Pennsylvania has the largest free-roaming herd of Northeast elk. Check out the Elk Scenic Drive, a 127 mile loop through the heart of elk country, or visit the Hicks Run or Hoover Farm Elk Viewing Areas, just two of the many viewing areas throughout the county.  

Parks

Sizerville State Park

Just minutes from downtown Emporium, the park offers miles of hiking and equestrian trails, overnight camping, pavilions, and a 105 ft swimming pool. 

Races

West Creek Recreational Trail

Held the 3rd Saturday in October at the peak of autumn in Cameron County,  this race includes rail/trail running and dirt road running through the Elk State Forest. Choose either a 12k, 26K or 50k distance or the new relay option for the 50k. 

Cameron County Canoe & Kayak Race

Held the second Saturday in April, this kayak and canoe race takes place on approximately 12 miles of the Driftwood Branch of the Sinnemahoning Creek. There are multiple divisions for all ages and ​teams.

explore Cameron County

Held in August, this gravel race starts in Emporium and features 4 different length races. The course terrain includes packed limestone, dirt forest access roads, and double track. Expect loose gravel in some areas and the beauty of the PA Wilds.

Sports

Emporium Country Club

This beautiful course offers majestic views and 18-holes that features four sets of tees; Blue -  Championship, White - Regular Men's, Gold - Senior and Red - Forward tees.

Trails

West Creek Recreational Trail

The nearly 19 mile 4 season trail connects Emporium to St Marys.  The trail runs through downtown Emporium providing access to restaurants, lodging, shopping and fuel.

Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run

Elk State Forest offers some of the best opportunities for hikers to enjoy Pennsylvania’s remote and scenic woodlands as you explore the heart of the PA Wilds.

Horseback trails

Explore the 200,000-acre Elk State Forest on this 53 mile equestrian trail. There are two loops for shorter rides.

Fred Woods Trail

The bike trail is 12 miles long. Half of the trail rests on Elk State Forest land, and the other half is on Lyme Timber Conservation Easement. The trail is made up of loops and connector trails.
